As God is exalted to the right place in our lives, a thousand problems are solved at once.
– A.W. Tozer

The summer restart of 2020 has broken my rest and focus so easily cultivated during lockdown. I was swayed by busyness and motion. Seeking to return to those moments of quiet of March and April, I resumed my Bible reading the last few weeks. I left off in the middle of Psalms.

Walking through these ancient passages, God has impressed on my heart that He is sovereign. He has always been sovereign, above all, full of ultimate power.

2020 is not lost.

You can pick up where you left off, and it’s not too late to jump back in and build new disciplines. As Jenn reminds us in the Psalms she selected below, God is love. Study is not about checking boxes or getting it perfect. It is about the posture of our hearts.

We encourage you to take some time today to review the Psalms below, to get still, to worship, and to know deep within your spirit that God is your refuge. His promises to you are true and good.

Where can you sacrifice time to be still and listen today?  p.s. We made a playlist – click here to listen on the go or scroll to the end of this post to preview!

God is sovereign. He has always been sovereign, above all, full of ultimate power.

God is also:

  • King!
Let the nations tremble! He sits on his throne between the cherubim. Let the whole earth quake!  (99:1)
  • Good

His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.  (100:5)

  • sitting on His throne forever
His fame will endure to every generation.  (102:12)
  • always the same
    He will live forever.  (102:27)
  • compassionate and merciful

He is slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.  (103:8)

  • Love, love that remains forever with those who fear him
His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments! The Lord has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything.  (103:17-18)

  • changing deserts into rivers, and dry, thirsty land into springs of water
He turns the fruitful land into salty wastelands, because of the wickedness of those who live there. But he also turns deserts into pools of water, the dry land into springs of water. He brings the hungry to settle there and to build their cities. They sow their fields, plant their vineyards, and harvest their bumper crops. How he blesses them! They raise large families there, and their herds of livestock increase.  (107:33-38)

But I will give repeated thanks to the Lord, praising him to everyone. For he stands beside the needy, ready to save them from those who condemn them.  (109:30-31)
